Brainstorm Blog #2

For Soundscape , I'll create an environment for the audience putting them in lonely stoner's shoes. My intention was to put them in a position that feels familiar, but distant from everyone else. This was to be accomplished by first starting the journey by hearing the conversations of cheery people, as though the individual is at this house party hiding within the bathroom. Revealing that the main character wasn't, in the soundscape they'd press a button and the cheering stops, realizing this individual was watching an old video on a laptop, in their room, smoking weed.

By doing this the audience already expects a distant feeling, but then the truth of the scene should accrue a new layer of loneliness and distance to the character. The audience then follows the subject along as they scribble in a notebook, sigh, and drop what they're doing for a walk outside. My audience can hear the chatter of kids outside, the neighbors dog, the closing the doors, and the leaves crunching under their own feet. By this point in particular, a wind chime nearby would grow louder, nearly intolerable, nothing else can be heard, forcing the audience to go back home. The subject, slams the doors both to their home and room. The soundscape then ends with them sitting back down, sighing of relief while replaying the vlog and smoking more weed alone. I want the audience to feel affected by the weed, mostly by having the chime dominate the soundscape amidst his walk.
