In response to the Megan Garber's perspective the Modern Digital Art medium, I agree that it's incredibly difficult to achieve a name & reputation similar to Jeff Koons. I believe this observation runs quite true because of how easily accessible the tools & techniques of previous art form & styles is today, with the innovation of digital art.

Digital mediums hardly require expensive materials, training, years practice or expertise, or any unique/experimental techniques, nor a portfolio. Of course those needs are not absent completely, but nearly anyone with an internet connection & a smartphone can express their ideas, feelings, or insights, then subsequently share to reach billions of people globally, BUT, so do other artists.

Personally, I think the medium of Digital Art is just oversaturated. The tools to express one self & reach others is too accessible, & thus today's world of artists that compete for audiences/appraisals as lucrative as J. Koons' Balloon Dog is- at a disadvantage. Modern, Digital Art likely won't get valued as highly as traditional art because the idea the medium doesn't challenge the expression, but assists it. Garber notes that Green's work is still for sale at $5,800 implying it hasn't yet sold meaning no value to the audience.

The Balloon Dog Deflating, to me, serves as a double entendre, being both the adjunct work from Jeff Koons' $5.8 million art piece being adapted into today's Digital Art, but also the deflating of value of art & artists in the digital medium.
