My first illustration will outline the patriotism of WWII against the Japanese front. This will then transition to my second illustration of the Japanese front and their homeland perspective of the horrors of war as the losing side. I then intend to utilize the third, fourth, and fifth illustrations to show the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two bombings of Japan that lead to mass genocide in the matter of seconds is to be expressed here. My sixth panel is to be used, expressing the dust to be settled, recovery coming upon the ashes of the fallen.
The earlier panels start out as black and white, to mimic their source content being old and historic photos, and the images I used intentionally share silhouettes. The silhouette of the Americans that triumphed planting the flag is followed by a photo of Pearl Harbor with a similar silhouette, marking the parallel between US winning, and the US losing at the same time. The image Pearl Harbor is also showing as event causing Japan to lose, as it was the turning point that got the US involved. The seventh panel was to show technological advancements of the modern age Japan, while the eighth panel is meant to show the advancement in entertainment of modern day Japan, showing a strip of their entertainment, focused on emotional well-being. The intention of this Zine is to show the healing and growth Japan had, the nukes being the catalyst that unintentionally brought new color to the nation.
